The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) is India's premier trade union federation, representing over 33 million workers across diverse sectors. We are committed to social justice, fair wages, safe working conditions, and the dignity of labor.
Facing workplace issues? Our legal team is here to help.
The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) was established on 3rd May 1947, in the wake of India's independence movement, with the vision of creating a unified platform to address the concerns of the working class in a newly independent nation.
Founded by leaders like Dr. Suresh Chandra Bose and with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi's principles, INTUC has grown to become the largest trade union federation in India, recognized by the Government of India as the most representative workers' organization.
Our mission extends beyond traditional union activities. We engage in policy advocacy, skill development programs, workers' education, and contribute to national development dialogues. INTUC believes in constructive cooperation between labor and management to achieve industrial harmony and economic growth.
Our Organizational Structure
INTUC founded in New Delhi with 200 affiliated unions.
Recognized as a central trade union organization by the Government of India.
Played key role in shaping labor legislation including the Industrial Disputes Act amendments.
Promote social justice and equality for all workers, regardless of gender, caste, religion, or economic status. We fight against discrimination and exploitation in the workplace, advocating for equal pay for equal work and protection of vulnerable worker groups including women, migrants, and informal sector workers.
Foster harmonious relations between employers and employees through dialogue, collective bargaining, and mutual respect. We believe in resolving disputes through conciliation and negotiation, minimizing industrial actions while ensuring workers' rights are protected. Our mediators have successfully resolved over 5,000 industrial disputes in the last decade.
Empower workers through education and skill development programs. We operate 47 workers' education centers across India, offering courses on labor laws, financial literacy, digital skills, and vocational training. Annually, over 50,000 workers benefit from our educational initiatives, enhancing their employability and awareness of their rights.
INTUC operates through a democratic federal structure with elected bodies at national, state, and enterprise levels, ensuring representation and accountability.
Our structure ensures that even the most remote worker's voice reaches the national leadership through democratic channels.
INTUC successfully negotiated a 14% wage increase for 2.5 million textile workers after 6 months of constructive dialogue with industry representatives.
